The Narrow Road for Teens 2017 Booklist

Timothy Keller, the founding pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City, addresses the frequent doubts that skeptics and non-believers bring to religion. Using literature, philosophy, anthropology, pop culture, and intellectual reasoning, Keller explains how the belief in a Christian God is, in fact, a sound and rational one. To true believers he offers a solid platform on which to stand against the backlash toward religion spawned by the Age of Skepticism. And to skeptics, atheists, and agnostics he provides a challenging argument for pursuing the reason for God.” – Summary

I have not finished reading this book yet but from what I have read it is amazing! This is a book that deals with a wide range of topics  from; Why does God allow suffering in the world? To how could a loving God send people to Hell? It is (in my opinion) a must read for today’s youth.

Philip Yancey has a way of confronting our most cherished but misguided notions about faith. In The Bible Jesus Read, he challenges the perception that the New Testament is all that matters and the Old Testament isn’t worth taking the time to read and understand. Yancey admits that, like many Christians, he usually avoided the Old Testament. After all, why bother with writings that can be so baffling, boring, even offensive to the modern mind? But a surprising discovery awaited Yancey when he began to explore how the Old Testament related to his life today. Those seemingly irrelevant Hebrew Scriptures took on a startling immediacy, portraying a passionate relationship between God and people against the broad backdrop of human experience.” Summary

The Bible Jesus Read” is an amazing read for those of you who wonder, “What is the point of the Old Testament anyway?” Well this is the book for you! I loved reading this book and I highly recommend it.

“Jesus of Nazareth. Some say he was a good teacher; others say he was a prophet. Some say he died; others say he was resurrected. Some say he was just a man; others say he was the Son of God. What is the truth?

Accepting the challenge of “proving” Christ, biblical apologist Ralph Muncaster carefully establishes—

  • How eye-witness and early believer accounts have been preserved
  • how archaeological discoveries verify and augment biblical facts
  • the existence of people mentioned in the Bible
  • the accuracy of biblical geography
  • how the church grew in spite of persecution

Evidence for Jesus provides a rich background of history, geography, and biography to bring Christianity—and its founder, Jesus—to life.” – Summary

This book is really good! Before you have a conversation with someone who is not a Christian read this book! This book is the best!

“However you put it, the fear of man can be summarized this way: We replace God with people. Instead of a biblically guided fear of the Lord, we fear others.
Of course, the “fear of man” goes by other names. When we are in our teens, it is called “peer pressure.” When we are older, it is called “people-pleasing.” Recently, it has been called “codependency.” With these labels in mind, we can spot the fear of man everywhere. Diagnosis is fairly straightforward.
– Have you ever struggled with peer pressure? “Peer pressure” is simply a euphemism for the fear of man” – Summary

This book was phenomenal! It helps you understand where our fear of people come from and really opens your eyes to how other people control us (intentionally or unintentionally.) This book is a must read for those of you who are struggling with peer pressure, and the fear of man. It directs us back to the fear of God instead of the fear of man. This book is Biblical, practical, and an overall great read! 🙂

“Is God a public figure? Does Christianity have a legitimate role to play in the public realm of politics, business, law, and education? Or are secularists right when they relegate religion to the strictly private realm of faith and feelings?

In Total Truth, Nancy Pearcey offers a razor-sharp analysis of the split between public and private, fact and feelings. She reveals the strategies of secularist gatekeepers who use this division to banish biblical principles from the cultural mainstream, stripping Christianity of its power to challenge and redeem the whole of culture.” – Summary

Read this book! This book is something every Christian should have in their house,  it’s that good! This book helped me understand Christian world view more.  Be aware that this is not something that you could just sit down and read in one sitting. God is love.  Crazy, relentless, all-powerful love.  Have you ever wondered if we’re missing it?

It’s crazy, if you think about it. The God of the universe—the Creator of nitrogen and pine needles, galaxies and E-minor—loves us with a radical, unconditional, self-sacrificing love. And what is our typical response? We go to church, sing songs, and try not to cuss. Whether you’ve verbalized it yet or not, we all know something’s wrong.

Does something deep inside your heart long to break free from the status quo? Are you hungry for an authentic faith that addresses the problems of our world with tangible, even radical, solutions? God is calling you to a passionate love relationship with Himself. Because the answer to religious complacency isn’t working harder at a list of do’s and don’ts—it’s falling in love with God. And once you encounter His love, as Francis describes it, you will never be the same. Because when you’re wildly in love with someone, it changes everything.” – Amazon Summary

I (sadly) have not read this book yet but I have heard amazing things about it! 🙂

“In the classic Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis, the most important writer of the 20th century, explores the common ground upon which all of those of Christian faith stand together. Bringing together Lewis’ legendary broadcast talks during World War Two from his three previous books The Case for Christianity, Christian Behavior, and Beyond Personality, Mere Christianity provides an unequaled opportunity for believers and nonbelievers alike to hear this powerful apologetic for the Christian faith.” – Summary

LOVED this book! This book was amazing! Read it and you will be changed. I will be rereading this book for sure. =)

“The Christian church has a long tradition of systematic theology, that is, studying theology and doctrine organized around fairly standard categories such as the Word of God, redemption, and Jesus Christ. This introduction to systematic theology has several distinctive features: – A strong emphasis on the scriptural basis for each doctrine and teaching – Clear writing, with technical terms kept to a minimum – A contemporary approach, treating subjects of special interest to the church today – A friendly tone, appealing to the emotions and the spirit as well as the intellect – Frequent application to life – Resources for worship with each chapter – Bibliographies with each chapter that cross-reference subjects to a wide range of other systematic theologies.” – Summary

I haven’t read this book… Yet! This book has been on my “To Read” list for a while so this year it is my goal to read this book. This 1,264 page monster of a book is something every Christian teen needs to have on their book shelf. Make the time to read it and you won’t be sorry.

“It’s easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily…

In Radical, David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences. He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple–then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard. And he tells the dramatic story of what is happening as a “successful” suburban “church decides to get serious about the gospel according to Jesus.” – Summary

I got this book for my birthday last month and it has become one of my all time favorites. This book gives a wonderful, and thought provoking look at what it really means to follow Jesus. Another great book to add to your “To Read” list.

“Don’t just read the easy stuff. You may be entertained by it but you will never grow from it.”
