Friends are great aren’t they?
Friends are people we can confide in…
Friends are people we can have fun with…
Overall friends are great right? But they are only great when we choose the right friends.
Friends Can Build Us Up and Friends Can Tear Us Down
In Sunday school my Youth Leader did an interesting exercise with us he was trying to get us to understand how having friends who are bad influences affect us. He had someone stand on a chair and had that person try and pull him up, pulling him up was hard! Then he tried to pull the person down which do you think was easier?
“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” – Jim Rohn
I believe the underlying message Mr. Rohn is trying to convey is that who you spend the most time with is who you become. The people you are around the most have the power to either build you up or bring you down. That is a pretty scary thought!
Who You Hang Out With Is Who You Become
If you hang out with a group of friends who are positive, kind, patient, and God fearing then it is probably safe to say that you will become like them. But if you hang out with people who are negative, swear, and who are disrespectful, then guess what? You’ll become like them as well.
Choosing the right friends is so crucial! Who you spend the most time with, you become. I ask you to take a minute to think about the friends you have. Are they encouraging you in your walk with Christ, building you up, letting you know when you are out of line, and being an overall good influence on you? If not than I think you need to take a closer look at those relationships.

Friends are fun and great to have around but remember the friends you surround yourself with is who you will become.
